04.05.2010: Caitlin Rose , Joe Pug, Emit Bloch, The Black Heart, 3 Greenland Place, Camden NW1 0AP
Caitlin Rose is fast becoming a real star. Joe Pug too. Oh and Emit Block also. In collaboration with the wonderful Allotment, we bring this excellent bill of New Country and Americana to The Black Heart, our new favourite venue in Camden.
Caitlin Rose
Caitlin at Myspace
Nashville's Caitlin Rose tells stories of an evolving country. The stories are old themes voiced with a new ease and energetic pace. In the way that writing about evolution is no longer about getting richer, sleeker, or more efficient. Hers are evolutionary stories in surprising but truthful directions, where sometimes dead flowers mean so much more than live ones. It's the sound of a future grown out of the past, but not out of its expectations.
"Terrific from start to finish" - Uncut
"Her voice is extraordinary" - The Guardian

"Even if the words singer-songwriter make you groan and cringe, I dare you to come to the Hideout to see Joe Pug and not develop goosebumps...His star is rising so catch him while you can." --Time Out Chicago
"In Pug's hard plucking, exaggerated choruses, and lyrical vignettes you can draw a pretty straight line from Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan to Johnny Cash to Bruce Springsteen to Steve Earle to Josh Ritter. Like all of them, Pug is a populist at heart, a singer who can't help but talk about all of us when he sings about himself and can't help but sing about himself when he's talking about all of us......"Hymn 101" is full of lines that will fill you with both heartbreak and euphoria. It's good to be reminded that that's why we listen to music in the first place. --3Hive
